Do you need an RO water purifier at home?

Lifestyle | 4 minute read |

Use five practical questions to decide whether an RO water purifier suits your household, daily routine and available counter space.

For families in Thailand, convenient access to purified water can simplify everything from morning drinks to hot-weather refreshments. However, the right choice depends on how you use water at home, rather than filtration technology alone.

How an RO water purifier works

A four-stage system begins with a pre-filter and activated carbon to capture larger particles such as sediment and rust. Water then passes through the reverse osmosis filter, which reduces dissolved solids and substances that may be difficult to see.

A post-filter containing coconut-shell activated carbon helps reduce chlorine and odours. Remineralisation then adds calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium ions to improve the water's taste. The system carries the WQA Gold Seal certification. SGS testing measured 100% removal of residual chlorine and microplastics, over 99% lead removal, over 99.9% removal of tested bacteria and norovirus, and no detectable BPA in the purified water. These results reflect controlled test conditions, and performance in your home may vary with incoming water quality and correct filter maintenance.

Five questions to ask yourself

1. Do you want finer filtration?

RO may suit you if reducing dissolved solids and a broad range of tested substances is important.

2. Do you prepare hot drinks often?

Both models heat water in about 3 seconds, so there is no need to boil water separately. Follow tea and coffee packaging for preparation instructions.

3. Would you use chilled water regularly?

In Thailand's warm, humid climate, direct chilled water may be convenient for busy households.

4. How much counter space can you spare?

Measure the width, depth and height carefully, including clearance for filling the raw-water tank.

5. Will you manage filters and dispensing routines?

The pre-filter and activated-carbon filter are replaced every six months, while the RO filter is replaced every two years. Keeping to this schedule is part of maintaining filtration performance.

Which households may benefit

An RO water purifier for home can suit condo residents who prefer a countertop appliance, young families with frequent drink preparation, and households that regularly need hot or chilled water. Preset volumes and a child lock can also support busy parents when filling familiar cups and bottles.

The display shows raw- and clean-water TDS, a colour water-quality indicator, filter life with replacement alerts and a low-water light, so you can check the appliance without guessing.

When you may not need one

You may not need RO if you are satisfied with your current drinking-water source, rarely use temperature-controlled water, or prefer a simpler filtration method. It may also be unsuitable when counter space is very limited or regular filter replacement does not fit your routine.

Choosing an Electrolux RO water purifier

Hot, chilled and ambient water from one appliance

The Electrolux 700 RO Hot&Cold water purifier counter top (EPWF2KCZOW) offers a 5-litre raw-water tank, 1.5-litre clean-water tank and 0.5-litre cold-water tank. Two outlets separate chilled water from ambient and hot water.

The 700 provides six hot-water steps from 45°C to 98°C and two chilled ranges, 5–12°C and 13–20°C. Its cold-water tank can be replenished in about nine minutes, while an independent cooling switch lets you turn cooling off. Six volume presets cover 120, 180, 250, 350, 500 and 750 mL.

Dual UVC protection periodically treats the clean-water and cold-water tanks. Under test conditions, the system reduced bacteria in these tanks by up to 99.97% and 99.88% respectively.

A compact option for households that mainly use hot water

For a more compact option, the Electrolux 600 RO Hot water purifier counter top (EPWE2KOZOW) has a 4-litre raw-water tank, 1.5-litre clean-water tank and one outlet. It measures 219 × 370 × 363 mm and weighs 6.7 kg.

The 600 offers the same six hot-water steps, plus 250 and 500 mL presets and manual dispensing. UVC periodically treats the clean-water tank and reduced its bacteria by more than 99% under test conditions.
